Impact of Inflation Upticks on Share Prices

Historically, there has been something of a cyclical relationship between monthly changes in the consumer price index and the performance of the S&P 500.
Since March 2003, as the accompanying chart illustrates, upticks in inflation have become increasingly associated with downticks in share prices. [click on image to enlarge]
